What is it?

It is pregnancy that goes beyond the calculated 42nd week of pregnancy. The state of AZ requires us to transfer your care should you go past the 42nd wk of pregnancy.

What is the problem?

While some women have longer pregnancies, there is truth to the caution that babies born past 42 wks are at greater risk for serious medical issues. Because of this, we will request that you receive non-stress and biophysical profile tests beginning at 40 wks and 6 days. These tests are done every three days and should optimally be performed by a perinatologist. Visiting a perinatologist can be very expensive.


  • Get an EARLY ultrasound (prior to 13 weeks) in pregnancy to confirm ACCURATE dates.
  • Orgasm at least 3x per week (5x after 34 weeks)
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink 1/2 your weight in ounces of fluids every day
  • After 16wks, drink 4 cups of pregnancy tea, daily (not with a history of birth prior to 38 wks)
  • Have a serving of yogurt, kefir, pickles, kim chi, sauerkraut, tempeh, miso or soy, daily
  • Eat sea vegetables or take a blue green algae supplement daily (Nori, kelp, spirulina)
  • Eat a fruit or vegetable high in Vit. C daily
  • Eat a serving of greens daily 
  • Avoid white flower and white sugar 
  • Work up to taking 2 ounces of “mothered” apple cider vinegar daily. Dilute as needed
  • At 36 wks reduce fats, carbs, and dairy.  Focus on greens, vegetables, and hydration
  • At 40 wks, bulk up on healthy carbs to increase your energy reserves.
  • Take a magnesium supplement daily
  • Take a zinc supplement daily (on a full stomach) 
  • Take 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 supplement daily (spray, no artificial colors or ingredients)
  • Take camu-camu daily
  • Take a probiotic daily
  • Take a complete and balanced “B” supplement daily
  • Begin taking a supplement from Natures Sunshine called “5W” beginning at 34 weeks
  • Avoid toxic shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes, deodorants and other body products
  • Avoid toxic household cleaners
  • Avoid artificial fragrances in perfume, air fresheners, candles, dryer sheets, laundry soap
  • Get at least 15 minutes of outdoor time, daily
  • Get at least 150 minutes of exercise weekly- POWER WALK! At least 1 mile 4x per wk
  • Take a salt bath (1 1/2 c Epsom salt, 1 cup sea salt, 1/4 c baking soda) 3-7 times a week
  • If not allergic to bees or pineapple, have plenty of fresh pineapple after 34wks of pregnancy
  • Bathe under the full moon, every month
  • Smell your partner's fragrant underarms (deodorant and antiperspirant-free) a few times a week. Weird, I know, BUT it really can help women to balance their hormones.
  • Read, read, read- borrow books and DVD’s from our extensive library
  • Have a chiropractic adjustment at least 1-3 times per month
  • Begin acupuncture treatments at 34 weeks
  • After 34wks, nap as frequently as possible
  • Attend all of our classes
  • Make a list of your fears, let your midwife know about them
  • Spend at least 15 minutes daily, focusing on your timely, comfortable and safe home birth
  • At 35 weeks, begin the homeopathic protocol:  
  • Mondays: 1- pellet of  12c Cimicifuga
  • Wednesdays: 1- pellet of 12c Caulophyllum
  • Fridays: 1- pellet of  12c Arnica
